“She’s Asking For It!”

She’s Asking For It is a common phrase that we have all thought about aimed towards someone, in some context, at some point in our lives. It isn’t just a name, it’s a phrase historically weaponised to destroy the integrity of women, shift blame onto us, and erode our self-esteem until we feel powerless. It was spat at Kate Elysia by one of the Telford rape gang who groomed and abused her, now a convicted offender. The same phrase has been echoed by police, social services, online trolls, and misogynistic influencers dominating today’s social media.

Kate is reclaiming that phrase

Let’s turn it into a weapon against rape culture, slut-shaming, and the toxic obsession with power and control that fuels misogyny.

“Yes… I am asking for it.”

  • “I’m asking for more.”
  • “I’m asking for change.”
  • “I’m asking for retribution.”
  • “I’m asking for laws that protect survivors, not perpetrators.”
  • “I’m asking for misogyny to be recognised as a hate crime.”
  • “I’m asking for accountability – from the police, social services, and our whole culture.”
  • “I’m asking for massive change – evolution through knowledge, education, and learning from the past.”
  • “I’m asking for a world where women can recognise their power and rise despite the forces against them.”

Through her work, Kate exposes rape culture, calls out the systems that fail women, and fights for systemic change. She stands for the women and girls who are often dismissed, ignored, or deemed “socially unacceptable” by the very institutions meant to protect them.

Kate Elysia is a survivor of grooming gangs, a mental health professional, an author, and an advocate. She is done with playing nice.
